My twin sister and I are always out looking for fun, cheap projects that we can do during our spare time. Yes, a mom of 2 can have free time. Now, many of our projects are EPIC failures but this one actually turned out pretty great.
My sister just purchased a home and decided she needed some new furniture pieces. So off we went, hunting at a neighborhood garage sale for something to ruin.
Let's take a step back.... Michelle (my sister) had come across an article about Painting fabric. Yes PAINTING fabric. You heard that right. Basically you mix paint, water and fabric medium together and paint away. So, of course, we needed to try this. Despite what I read on reviews, I had faith it would be a success.
Ok... So back to the garage sale'in. Just as we were above to give up.. We found a perfect project piece. A chair! We easily convinced her boyfriend that we needed this chair and at a whopping price of 20.00 it was ours. It was a nice chair to begin with but was PINK. And although I love pink, she wanted a blue chair.
So here is our fabric painting journey.
After spraying down the chair with water and mixing up the paint, we did a thin coat of the mixture.
After allowing it to dry for a couple of hours, we took some fine grit sandpaper and did a light sanding to help reduce the "crispness". Yes, it can get kind of crunchy.
We then applied another 3 coats, allowing each coat to dry and sanded the chair in between each dried coat.
Here is the final outcome.
*Note- If you attempt this project, please be aware that the fabric will be a little bit harder and crunchy even after sanding but is great for a revamp project.
